Filling admission forms should not be a big deal as far as students are concerned. But, it seems more like admitting a patient to a hospital or buying a railway ticket. One has to literally slog to get ones kid admitted to school. Standing in queues for long hours – as early as 4 am; taking day offs from office, rescheduling the daily work and so on. All of this and much more seems to be in the list of getting a place for your kid in school.
Apathy doesn’t ends here. Last 2 – 3 years have been really painful for parents as well as students. One had to really bully there kid in making him fit the schools criteria of knowing Alphabets and Numeric’s even before they got know the meaning of school( Imagine teaching a toddler what is ABCD when what all he knows is his parents and other family members!!. ). After this the grilling session of what the parent does (whether both of them are working or not), their company, their salary and on the top of all how much time do they have to give to their kids? I always wondered how one can ask how much time parents give to their children if both of them are working!!).
In fact this dilemma dosen’t ends here. Then comes the long list of schools which most of the parents keep on thinking how they will furnish them? In fact, getting children admitted to school has become such a huge task that parents start thinking of school admissions soon after their kids are born. One wonders getting basic education which the Government of India says – “is the basic and birth right of every children born” such a tough thing to get?
Well, then there seems to be some changes in the current scenario. With amendments pertaining to school admissions and child education, we as parents can expect some relief. The new agenda – they say will include things like no interviews of kids and parents, no demarcation on the basis of parents social background or job profile and no donations. It this is really implemented, we can really take a sigh of relief.
Let’s see what good the education system and education ministry will do with our children’s future. After all career is not a gamble one can play with!
